"Grimm": A sly, modern spin on the fairy tale
The new NBC series stylishly updates a classic form. ABC's "Once Upon a Time," not so much.
Everybody knows the modern world lacks enchantment. As a premise, that assertion is unprovable, but movies and TV shows have been saying it forever, so we just accept it as a trope, like, "The suburbs are shallow" and "When the railroads came, the Wild West became civilized." Any program built around it is therefore better off not dwelling on it, and focusing its energies instead on other, more basic pleasures: characterization, plot, atmosphere. Two new network shows are built around fairy tales and the absence of magic in modern life -- ABC’s "Once Upon a Time," which debuted Sunday at 8 p.m. and repeats this Sunday at the same time; and NBC’s "Grimm," which debuts tonight at 9 p.m./8 Central.
The first is officially one of the season’s only new hits, but I thought it was awful: poorly written and directed and woodenly acted, except for Scottish actor Robert Carlyle’s performance as Rumpelstiltskin); you can can check it out Sunday and see for yourself, but I wouldn’t recommend it, unless you’re the type of person who hears somebody say, "This milk is sour" and says, "Here, let me taste it." NBC’s "Grimm" is much better -- not a great show right out of the box, but much more confident and stylish, more sure of what it wants to say and how it wants to say it.

Glee Scoop: Jonathan Groff Returns as [Spoiler]!
Jonathan Groff is bringing Jesse St. James back to Glee later this season, but there’s a twist — and a juicy one at that: The student has now become the teacher!
At an event celebrating the show’s 300th musical performance on Wednesday, exec producer Ryan Murphy revealed that Groff will appear in multiple episodes as [SPOILER ALERT] the coach of New Directions’ rival choir Vocal Adrenaline. Prologue is Attached to 'Mission: Impossible 4'
Oh this is awesome! SlashFilm is reporting, and we've confirmed with our own sources, that a 6-minute prologue for Chris Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises will be showing in front of IMAX prints of Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol this December. If you recall, it's opening in IMAX a few days early starting December 16th. This is a repeat of Warner Bros' showing the opening bank robbery prologue from The Dark Knight in front of I Am Legend in IMAX in late 2007. We can expect this to be shot and shown in IMAX just like that, which sounds amazing, as that was one of the most thrilling parts about the early lead-up to TDK.

World of Warcraft’s Next Big Expansion Is Mists of Pandaria
The next World of Warcraft expansion is called Mists of Pandaria, an expansion pack that includes a new race, level cap, class and talents.
The expansion pack, which was unveiled at Blizzcon just moments ago but which wasn't yet dated, will include the new panda-like Pandarens. The expansion takes place on the continent of Pandaria and comes with a new level cap of 90. The expansion also brings with it a new pet battle system, new talent system, Blizzard's Chris Metzen announced today.

Simon Baker Talks MARGIN CALL, Occupy Wall Street, THE MENTALIST, and His Thoughts on DOCTOR STRANGE
Opening this weekend, in limited release, is writer/director J.C. Chandor’s Margin Call. Starring Kevin Spacey, Demi Moore, Paul Bettany, Zachary Quinto, Penn Badgley and Simon Baker, Margin Call is a very smart economic thriller that revolves around the key people at an investment bank during the 24-hour period before the 2008 financial crisis. As the film unfolds, we learn who knew what and when, and what lines people are willing to cross to stay ahead. While Hollywood often glamorizes or exaggerates real events, Margin Call makes you feel like a fly on the wall and it never feels forced. Definitely recommended. Sony Pictures to Adapt ASSASSIN’S CREED
Sony Pictures is already hard at work trying to turn the popular video game series Uncharted into a movie (even though it kind of already is), and now they’ve cast their eye to another “Grab all the Walls” game. Variety reports that the studio is in final negotiations with game developer Ubisoft for the screen rights to Assassin’s Creed. The games center on an a secret order of assassins operating in past centuries (the first game is set in the 12th century, the next two games are in the 15th century), but are framed within a sci-fi context of being the memories of a hapless everyman* who’s at the center of a present-day secret war. The game features lots of parkour and trying to covertly pull off assassinations before you blow it and have to run the target down in the most attention-grabbing fashion possible.
Ubisoft has set the terms of the deal to be a more active participant in the movie’s development rather than provide a one-off licensing agreement. Ubisoft chief Yves Guillemot says he also wants movies of Splinter Cell and Ghost Recon. Hit the jump to see a trailer for the first game and start your fan-casting in the comments section.

With the recent debut of the "Avengers" trailer, the timing couldn't be better for "Captain America: The First Avenger" to arrive on shelves next week. Marvel's upcoming team-up film directed by Joss Whedon will feature soldier-turned-superhero Steve Rogers in a prominent role - possibly as the team's leader - alongside fellow heroes Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, and the rest of Marvel's movie-verse stars.

Fans looking to sate their appetite for all things Lannister and Stark, will get a brief reprise in March as the first season becomes available to take home on Blu-Ray and DVD. Carey Mulligan to star in new Coen brothers and Spike Jonze film
After a busy fall in theaters, Carey Mulligan looks to keep herself occupied in 2012, landing the female lead in Coen Brothers next pic "Inside Llewyn Davis" and entering negotiations for a lead role in an untitled project for Spike Jonze.
On "Inside Llewyn Davis," Mulligan will star opposite Oscar Isaac in the Scott Rudin-produced pic that the Coens are writing, directing and producing with Scott Rudin. Story follows a musician who tries to make it in the New York music scene in the 1960s.

TV Ratings Tuesday: 'Unforgettable' Rises; 'NCIS,' 'X Factor' Lead Night; 'Man Up' Premieres Modestly
FOX won the night with adults 18-49 as a two-hour Tuesday edition of The X Factor garnered a 3.8 adults 18-49 rating.
CBS was second for the night with adults 18-49. NCIS was down two tenths from last week to a 3.8 adults 18-49 rating (though it led the hour in head-to-head competition with The X Factor). NCIS: LA was steady week over week with a 3.3 adults 18-49 rating. Unforgettable rose two tenths to a 2.5 adults 18-49 rating.
ABC's Last Man Standing slipped 17% from last week's premiere to a 3.0 adults 18-49 rating and Man Up! premiered to a very modest 2.4 adults 18-49 rating. At 9pm Dancing with the Stars results fell a hard 21% to a series-low for a regular fall telecast 2.6 adults 18-49 rating. Body Of Proof rose a tenth to a 1.9 adults 18-49 rating.
On NBC, against the special The X Factor, The Biggest Loser dropped, but only a tenth to a 1.9 adults 18-49 rating. Parenthood inched down a tenth to a season-low tying 2.0 adults 18-49 rating.

How far would you go for revenge? After being humiliated by Simon Lovelace, twelve-year-old magician Nathaniel schemes to steal the Amulet of Samarkand from Lovelace's own home. In order to accomplish this task he calls upon the help of the powerful djinni called Bartimaeus. Only things quickly go wrong.
The more I read graphic adaptations of books and other media, the more I realize that they're a lot like film adaptations. Like in movies, the author and illustrator need to strike a delicate balance. They need to be faithful to the source material, while making sure the adaptation fits its new format. One area where the Bartimaeus graphic novel succeeds is in faithfulness to the source material. Despite the fact that The Amulet of Samarkand was a rather thick novel most of it remains intact in this 144 page graphic novel. The writers did a very good job of distilling it down to its most important part. Unfortunately, such faithfulness almost ends up being this adaptation's undoing.

The age of Fandom viral sites, and why ‘Potter’ should copy ‘Twilight’
Over the past few months there have been three websites which launched to much fanfare within their respective fandoms.
Harry Potter, The Hunger Games, and Twilight all have a site created by the legal owners, and they are each viral in their own way. But is one better than the other two? And which is best for its respective fandom?
Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling was first out of the gate with Pottermore a few months ago (though technically it still hasn’t officially launched). The site is a place for fans to go to be sorted, read new content from Jo, and interact in limited ways with fellow Pottermore users.
Next came Lionsgate with TheCapitol.pn for The Hunger Games fans. The site allows you to be placed in a District and receive a District Identification Pass. You’re then encouraged to share the pass on your social media networks. Not much else is offered presently.
Most recently was Summit’s Twilight Time Capsule which allows fans to upload photos, video, and text from a particular time in Twilight history. You can then scroll through all the user-submitted content in an interactive interface. While it looks nice, there are some modifications that should be made so it’s easier to browse the content.

Assuming the deal closes — and I’m told it definitely will — Overstreet will reprise his role as the sweet, sculpted Sam beginning with this season’s eighth episode (tentatively scheduled to air in early December).

FOX's "Terra Nova" and "House" were also off a little from their performances two weeks ago (although up from last week's baseball-delayed start times), and "The Sing-Off" improved slightly for NBC.

Giuliana Rancic said Monday that she has breast cancer, having discovered a tumor during a mammogram while undergoing another round of in-vitro fertilization in an effort to get pregnant.
The E! News and Style Network host, 36, made the emotional announcement on NBC's Today show. She will undergo surgery this week and then have six weeks of radiation therapy.
The cancer has been detected early, and the prognosis is good, she said.

'Sons of Anarchy' scores a fifth season on FX
The current season of "Sons of Anarchy" is breaking ratings records for FX, so the announcement Monday (Oct. 17) that the show has been picked up for a fifth season isn't much of a surprise.
Which is not to say it isn't welcome. "SOA" will be back for Season 5 in 2012 (specific dates haven't been set, but expect an early fall debut along the lines of this and past seasons). Season 4, meanwhile, continues through Nov. 29.

Because I love to watch tv very much, oh may be not all time I am watching the tv- more shows I am watching through internet, but still I need good tv to watch it. Recently we bought one of the lcd tv, but we need more - to my daughter's room, to bedroom and I decided to research the internet.
The most important questions are : 3D or not 3D? Features like Internet streaming and LED backlights are also important. Home theaters, or well budget tv , etc. I actually sank in all this information and thought that I'll never will be able to pick right tv.
Also lcd &plasma ? This is the #1 question for me: Which is better, LED LCD TV or Plasma? And I found out that w hen choosing between plasma and LCD TVs, you're actually selecting between two competing technologies, both of which achieve similar features (i.e., ,bright crystal-clear images, super color-filled pictures. They are only different the way they deliver the image to the viewer. And this is not important for me.
So I decided to take the tv whcih I'll be like- the price, the design, and the picture and my preference is lcd tv

Game of Thrones Season 2 Slated for April 2012 Premiere
Eager to return to Westeros? Can't wait to see what happened to Daenerys across the narrow sea? Well, my fellow Game of Thrones fans, we've got a little bit more waiting left. The second season of the hit HBO fantasy drama has been slated to premiere in April 2012.
There's been no specific date set, but that puts the premiere about six months away. That's quite the long time to wait to see what happens when Tyrion arrives at King's Landing, or if Sansa Stark will ever get her revenge on her betrothed, the despicable Joffrey. Game of Thrones& Legend of the seeker
just finished to watch the GoT show and started to read the books- I think it is very good written and interesting. Another compliment to the show producers- they kept very close to the book and this I think made the show so good. In contrast of the show Legend of the seeker where producers butchered the book so heavy that only one was left- the name of characters. And this I think was the main reason that rating of the LotS had been dropped and show cancelled- nobody wants to see bad fanfic instead.

Redecorating like Melanie Paxson
i've been thinking about redecorating a long time and now I've got an idea from Melanie Paxson.
Melanie Paxson stars on the ABC comedy series "Notes From the Underbelly," which airs Wednesdays on ABC. Produced by film director Barry Sonnenfeld and Kim and Eric Tannenbaum ("Two and a Half Men"), the series is an ensemble comedy about pregnancy and maintaining relationships with family and friends.
I've found good and not very pricy euro lounger and I think that me and my dog will look good on it just like Melanie looks with her dogs.
Also I've been thinking about good low table and ta-da this site has it too. May be little pricy but good quality and good look demand some spending.
Another problem is with my lounge- I have a few pieces of furniture there and they are white, black and brown. I've decided to cover one brown piece with adjustable paper which look like zebra- black and white stripes which is soo stylish- just like Melanie floor cover is.
And after that it popped up in my mind that it would be great to decorate it with some wold savannah animal - may be giraffe statue ? And I've found my giraffe statue

HBO confirms Game of Thrones castings for people who aren't the Reeds
George R. R. Martin has updated his clue post with confirmation of what many had already guessed: John Stahl will be plaing Rickard Karstark in season two of Game of Thrones. This character had been played by a featured extra in season one, but now that Karstark has more of a role to play, they have recast the part.
John Stahl is a veteran actor of stage and screen. The Scottish actor has had roles in Holby City, Doctors and Being Human on TV. He has appeared in numerous West End productions including Much Ado About Nothing, The Globe Mysteries, Macbeth, Othello, and the Danny Boyle directed Frankenstein. Rickard Karstark is a bannermen to King Robb Stark of Winterfell and joins him in his war against the Lannisters.

"David did not talk directly to TV Week," his rep said. "His recent quotes were from a press conference on behalf of Bones and taken out of context."
While Boreanaz admitted in May 2010 that he had an affair, the cheating scandal was never mentioned by Boreanaz or anyone else for that matter during the recent press conference.

We're creeping ever closer to the holiday season which can only mean one thing: More Sherlock Holmes, natch. To that end, Warner Bros. has given us an early gift -- two new character posters for the next Holmes installment, "A Game of Shadows."
In the first, a bowler-wearing Robert Downey Jr. clutches a cool steampunk looking automatic pistol of some sort as a smoking Eiffel Tower looms in the background.
The second features Holmes' right hand man, Watson, as portrayed by Jude Law, who is looking totally tough as he wields -- well, we're not sure what that is. Anyhow, he too is standing before a smoke-billowing landmark -- London's Big Ben.

The series, with 90210's opener, also was the net’s most-watched Tuesday in two years. Its most recent effort drew 1.7 million and a 0.7.

In the network’s key 18-34 demo, the series is averaging a 0.9 rating.
The network, in a move to expand its viewership, re-aired the pilot three days after its premiere and has also slotted it in the Wednesday at 8 p.m. slot previously occupied by its ratings challenged Mario Lopez-hosted unscripted series H8R.

Flawless Angelic Kmart Goddess Jaclyn Smith stops by 'The Talk' to discuss her battle with cancer
Jaclyn Smith faced down many foes on 'Charlie's Angels,' but none was more daunting than breast cancer. In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month, Smith stopped by 'The Talk' (weekdays syndicated on CBS) to discuss not just her own battle with the disease, but also her late friend and co-star Farrah Fawcett's.
Smith remembered being there for Fawcett as she struggled and ultimately succumbed to cancer in 2009. "She never gave up. She just had this relentless drive to conquer the disease," she said.

I carried out the experiment with Reiki and breast cancer cells MCF-7. Trey had been destroyed by Reiki very easily. Also some of my students had very great results with Reiki and breast cancer- one who used Reiki mostly to diminish side effects of chemotherapy not only got rid of these side effects but her tumor shrinked so much that her doctor had been astonished and because of it even cancel the surgery which she no longer needed.

Criminal Minds Duo Shoot Down Hotch/Prentiss Romance
Write about CBS’ Criminal Minds — any story about it, really — and a small sect of fans is sure to surface throwing their weight behind a someday romance between BAU agents Hotch (played by Thomas Gibson) and Prentiss (Paget Brewster).
“They have good chemistry and look great together, and she could bring out a less serious side to him,” one TVLine reader recently commented. “I want to see my Hotch have some fun.”
Another reader chimed in, “The writers could get a lot of creative, intriguing material from a Hotch/Prentiss coupling,” while a third was a bit more extreme with her investment in the would-be coupling, declaring, “If the writers don’t put Hotch and Prentiss together in Season 7 it will be a travesty. Gloria Steinem comments on the cancellation of the Playboy Club
NBC cancelled the Playboy Club after airing only three episodes, making it the first cancellation of the 2011-2012 season. In August after NBC announced its fall lineup Gloria Steinem, Co-Founder of the Women’s Media Center said she hoped people would boycott the show. “It’s just not telling the truth about the era.”
In response to the news of the show’s cancellation, Steinem said:
“That the Playboy Club TV series set a record for fast failure proves that you can’t lie to women about what was good for us in the past and what wasn’t. Mad Men tried to tell the truth, but the Playboy Club was history according to Hefner.”
NBC had come under fire from both progressive feminist groups and conservative morality groups for its celebration of the Hugh Hefner brand. If the show had been a hit, NBC likely would have ignored any cultural or social criticism in favor of advertisers’ dollars, but after dismal ratings for the pilot episode, and successive episodes with even less viewers, they pulled out. (Although the show will remain in production till October 10 and there is potential for it to reemerge on cable).

Doctor Who 7 season
Doctor Who: The Brilliant Book 2012 is out, and in it Steven Moffat confirms Amy and Rory will not be in the Christmas Special - despite some recent indications that Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill have been filming new scenes, which one would have assumed is for the currently filming Christmas Special. Anyway, Moffat does confirm they'll be back in some capacity for season seven, so perhaps those scenes are for that. He also says the return of River Song is "dependent on Alex Kingston" - which may mean her schedule might not allow for it, or perhaps Moffat is simply being cagey.

It says something of my character that I took a short story that was written on a lark and turned it into a novel length drama…though I’m not certain that something is positive. Buffy and Willow start off as broken as you’re likely to see them. Be patient. This story is about how learning to love can lead to recovery and perhaps even redemption.

8 Radically Different Classics for the Fantasy Lover

Read much fantasy? Not at all? Personally, I have been an avid fantasy lover ever since I was little, and always dived for anything that had the remotest hint of magic in it. However, at some point I started feeling as though everything I read was the same. I still loved fantasy just as much, but everything felt like part of the same, giant book!
Here's what it came down to: fantasy, like many other genres, has certain recurrent themes. While many authors write their own individual takes on these themes (and do just as well!), there can be good amount of similarity, and past a certain point, nothing seems new anymore.
This list is not a top fantasy list. It's a list targeted at fantasy lovers. In it, you'll find sci-fi, action, magical realism, and a few gems which I feel are able to represent subgenres of fantasy.

n case you were a little bleary eyed over your Breakfast Smile platter, that really was Emma Watson at the Eat'n Park, winding down after a long day of filming.
It was one of her haunts -- along with the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Bethel Park, which she called home -- for part of the spring and summer while filming "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" in Pittsburgh.
"The shooting schedule's been kind of crazy. It's such a great group of people, and we all got so close that we mainly just hang out at the Crowne Plaza -- I'm serious -- and we play music," she said in late June in Peters Township.
(Summit Entertainment just released the first photos from the movie set to arrive in theaters in 2012.)
"Pretty much everyone that's part of the cast is musically talented in some way, so we spent most of our evenings playing music and just talking and just being silly. I've been to Eat'n Park a few times. A bunch of times, actually."
She would usually go after filming when it was late and the place was quiet. "I haven't had too much time to do anything but everyone's been so friendly," she said.
The 21-year-old plays high school senior Sam in the movie version of the novel about Charlie, a brilliant but sensitive 15-year-old who pours into letters his feelings about first-time emotions and experiences, perceptive observations about the people around him and, eventually, heartrending memories that surface.

Emily Deschanel Sits Down with David Boreanaz
est known for his star turns on the small screen—in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, and Bones—David Boreanaz is thinking bigger these days, with his most noteworthy feature-film role to date in the inspirational sports drama The Mighty Macs. Set in the early 1970s and based on a true story, the film centers on Cathy Rush (Carla Gugino), wife of NBA referee Ed Rush (played by Boreanaz), who wants to coach the Immaculata College women’s basketball team. The film, which was shot in Philadelphia, was a kind of a homecoming for the Malvern Prep graduate. The son of retired WPVI weatherman Dave Roberts, Boreanaz seized the opportunity to take a recent trip down memory lane with his Bones costar Emily Deschanel.
EMILY DESCHANEL: Let’s get down to business. Your dad was a famous and very handsome weatherman. My grandmother would say that—very handsome. Did he inspire you to get into television?
DAVID BOREANAZ: My father was very supportive. He encouraged me and was always there for me. Seeing him in front of the camera, I was intrigued by his humor, his sense of style, and how he interacted with people. He gave me the sense of being comfortable in front of people and speaking from the heart. Moving to Philly [from Buffalo], I was first exposed to theater seeing shows on Broadway. That was very influential and powerful in awakening the spirit to be an actor.

Game of Thrones, Season 2 BTS fan footage
Season 2 of HBO’s Game of Thrones is currently filming on location in Dubrovnik, Croatia, but not everyone can drop what they’re doing and head that way for an up-close-and-personal view. Fortunately, an intrepid fan provided a great video and pics for us.
We’re not talking about a grand and epic adventure here. Unfortunately, there are no larger-than-life battles or high drama taking place, but the guy known as Bahamut1989Guardian has still given us a peek behind the scenes that we wouldn’t otherwise have.
The first part of the video is taken from a high vantage point, with Guardian sweeping back and forth across the Thrones players as they take it easy between scenes. Honestly, things wouldn’t be very impressive if this was all that was offered. Fortunately, he soon enters the location and explores a little bit… until he’s caught and escorted away, anyway. Undeterred, he resumes filming from various locations, even managing to be at the back of scene that includes an angry mob while filming.
The video, which also includes plenty of still photos and music from Season 1 of Game of Thrones, also gives us a couple of peeks at Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey) and Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage), who makes his appearance around the 5-minute mark.
You won’t mistake it for a Thrones episode, but at almost 9-minutes in length, it’s a decent glimpse at what’s happening in Croatia

Dominic Purcell Joins Satan in 'Paradise Lost'
Dominic Purcell has been cast in Warner Bros.' Paradise Lost. Alex Proyas is directing the action fantasy film, which stars Bradley Cooper, Casey Affleck, Djimon Hounsou, Ben Walker, Camilla Belle and Callan McAuliffe.
Legendary Pictures is producing the action-oriented take on John Milton's epic poem about the war between angels in heaven. Purcell has been cast as Jerahmeel, an angel who falls in with Lucifer and ultimately becomes the Dark One's right-hand man as the renamed Moloch.
Repped by UTA and Untitled Entertainment, Purcell most recently appeared in Straw Dogs and Killer Elite. The actor has just wrapped filming on Vikingdom and has Bad Karma and Officer Down forthcoming. He was also one of the stars of the Fox series Prison

David Boreanaz opening up about his cheating
Bones star David Boreanaz who's admitted to being unfaithful during his decade long marriage says that the hurt his family and wife have felt has been "a bonding experience in the long run."
In May last year, David revealed his marriage to Jaime Bergman had been "tainted with my infidelities." Soon afterwards Rachel Uchitel, one of Tiger Woods mistresses, claimed that she too had embarked on a "romantic relationship" with David.
"In a sacred ground like marriage...you find yourself out of it for reasons unknown that can be destructive." David tells TV Week. "There could be a demon that kind of comes out and overtakes you." While he admits to making some very poor choices, he adds that "I've learnt from those and I've grown from them."
